Move-In and Move-Out Cleaning Checklist
Moving is stressful enough without worrying about scrubbing the oven at midnight before your lease ends. I handle a lot of move-in and move-out cleans around Kissimmee, and I’ve learned that property managers here don’t mess around: they will charge you for anything that’s not spotless.
Here’s the checklist I follow on every move job. If you want to tackle it yourself, use this as your guide. And if you’d rather hand it off, that’s what I’m here for.
Kitchen
This is always the most labor-intensive room. I clean inside and outside the oven, microwave, and fridge, including every shelf and drawer. The range hood gets degreased. All countertops, backsplash tiles, and cabinet fronts get wiped. I go inside every cabinet and drawer too, because landlords check.
The sink and faucet get sanitized and descaled. Dishwasher interior wiped. Light fixtures, switches, and the floor, including under the kick plates where crumbs hide for months.
Bathrooms
I scrub and sanitize the tub, shower walls, and glass doors. Toilets get cleaned inside, outside, the base, and behind. Vanity, mirror, all fixtures. Inside the medicine cabinet and under the sink.
Grout scrubbing and descaling the faucets and shower heads take extra time, but it’s the difference between getting your deposit back and not. I mop around and behind the toilet, a spot most people skip.
Bedrooms and living areas
- Dust everything: ceiling fan blades, light fixtures, all surfaces
- Clean inside all closets: shelves, rods, and the floor
- Window sills, tracks, and blinds (Florida pollen makes these a mess)
- Baseboards and door frames
- Vacuum carpets or mop hard floors
- Interior windows
Garage and laundry
Sweep and spot-clean the garage floor. Clean inside and on top of the washer and dryer. Wipe laundry room shelves and sink if there is one.
The final walkthrough
I do a full walkthrough at the end of every move job, covering light switches, outlet covers, door handles, air vents, and one last check through every room under good lighting. I don’t leave until I’m confident it’ll pass inspection.
