Deep Cleaning vs Standard Cleaning: What's the Difference?

Deep Cleaning vs Standard Cleaning: What's the Difference?

People ask me this all the time: “Do I need a deep clean or just a regular cleaning?” It’s a fair question, especially if you’ve never hired a cleaning professional before. The short answer: they’re two different jobs with two different goals.

Standard cleaning is about maintenance

A standard cleaning keeps your home looking and feeling good between visits. I dust surfaces, vacuum and mop floors, wipe down kitchen counters and appliance fronts, sanitize the bathrooms, take out trash, and tidy up the main living areas.

It usually takes me between 1.5 and 3 hours depending on the size of your home. Most of my recurring clients in Kissimmee and the surrounding Osceola County area book this on a weekly or biweekly schedule.

Deep cleaning tackles what builds up over time

A deep clean is where I get into the stuff that doesn’t get touched during a regular visit:

  • Inside the oven, fridge, and microwave: shelves, drawers, all of it
  • Degreasing the range hood and exhaust fan
  • Scrubbing grout lines and descaling faucets
  • Baseboards, door frames, light switches
  • Behind and under appliances (you’d be surprised what collects back there, especially in homes near the US-192 corridor where construction dust drifts in)
  • Inside cabinets and closets
  • Window sills and tracks, which get especially grimy here in Central Florida with the humidity and pollen

A deep clean runs 3 to 5 hours. It’s a bigger job, and it should feel like a reset when I’m done.

So which do you need?

If your home is already in pretty good shape and you want to keep it that way, standard cleaning on a regular schedule is the move.

Deep cleaning is what I recommend when you’re booking a professional for the first time, when it’s been a few months since anyone really got into the details, or when you’re getting ready for guests. I also do deep cleans for clients prepping a home for sale: a lot of the realtors I work with around ChampionsGate and Davenport send me their listings before showings start.

What most of my clients end up doing

Almost everyone starts with a deep clean. Once the house is back to baseline, they switch over to recurring standard visits, with biweekly being the most common. That way the deep clean doesn’t go to waste, and the home stays in great shape without paying for a full deep clean every time.

It’s a simple system, and it works.
